This week has been a very good one for me. The Wednesday morning I was expecting to see John take us in the morning for a timekeeping lecture. But as normal, it was Steve who started off the day. He showed the class the presentation on Logo design again. This was good to refresh some of the key concepts of logo design in mind. I also generated some new logos after he flicked through the examples. I think that this week I have concentrated more to the course than I have ever done before. On my way home me and Craig were discussing logos, and seeing them on our way home. I never really thought about logos at all until we started to create them. Every where I seem to go now I see them, and I always try and think of ways to improve them, or say whether or not they are actually good logos. I think this logo design work has sort of lit a spark in me. I have really enjoyed creating different logo designs for our assignment (and having them ripped to shreds by people). This is a part of learning what's right and what's not though. I enjoy feedback from other members, and I offer as much.
The second lecture of the day, which I didn't expect was the Timekeeping one, taken by Steve. I was keen to learn as much as I possibly could from this presentation, as I feel that having improper time plans is one of my weaknesses.
Throughout the afternoon of Wednesday, and the full day Thursday I created over 100 logo ideas. Steve's words about evidencing progression really got me motivated. I started with about 60 designs and then selected several ones and changed them around to create even more unique logo designs. I then used feedback and my own opinion to narrow the choice down to 10 single designs. I am going to create these ideas in freehand first and change the colour scheme, before narrowing my choice down to 4 finalised pieces. The next time I feel that I would use less feedback. I think people started to get annoyed with me asking for recommendations and picking out their best ones. Sorry if I did. I would also try not to create as many logos that were similar.
I look forward to the presentation we have to do on Wednesday, as it is another chance to brush up our skills and confidence. I also look forward to gaining feedback on my finalised pieces, which I can use to create a final logo. I also would like the chance to see everyone else's work. I am sure that their will be loads of unique ideas and designs.
Our feedback session was quite shocking really. Very disappointing. We were asked to tell Steve about the tasks that were needed for a pass, merit or distinction grade for our sketchblog assignment. Only a few of the tasks stood out in my mind, I could not remember them at all. Steve wasn't impressed at all. We have had this assignment for 23 weeks now and I could not even remember what was needed to pass it. I really needed to read the assignment sheet more. Next time I would have definitely read it more carefully, and made sure that I knew what everything meant. Asking more questions I feel was needed, although this is something that I am working on at the minute. Since the beginning of the course I feel I have improved quite a lot.
The second feedback session was also very alarming and shocking. It was a reality check, and I feel that I definitely needed it! I really need to do some work on my sketchblog before the final hand in, although I do feel that most of the tasks are quite up to date. I will need to add more cultural references, as well as a couple more inspiration pieces that aren't web based. I feel that everybody needs to do some changes to their sketchbooks over the next few weeks. The asignment sheet is your best friend. Make sure you fully understand what it required.
Throughout the next week I will be selecting my final four pieces and preparing for the presentation. I will also need to complete my site map and start to work on my corporate identity. I have managed to ask about some specimen pieces of corporate identities, although I have had no reply back as of yet.
I will be uploading some of my logo designs later on after I have created them in Freehand.

It's ace to see that things have clicked in your head Marc, sometimes it's just a little thing like you describe that needs to be lit for that to happen.
It sounds like you're doing a cracking job at logo ideas, so I'm sure you're going to come up with four corkers.
Can't wait to see them.
Yeah I hope so too. I'm currently creating them in freehand although im still new at this program, so things are taking a little longer than I expected. I'm coming into college on Tuesday though so I can ask Steve if i'm struggling with anything.
Other than that things are going quite well.
The corporate identity I am recieving still hasn't come through yet. Has anyone else got hold of any examples apart from the ones Steve showed us?
They're all over the net Mark, just have a look around at them. Type it into Google.
Other than that, try local companies if you're wanting to contact people. I could probably get hold of some examples from Nexus if you like, the older designs.
Although they are much of a case of how not to do a corporate identity.
SUre if you don't mind. If mine looks like theirs then I know i'm doing mine wrong!
