I must remember to save my work!

This week has been an exciting one for me, due to the fact that we have started our image manipulation section of our assignment. I have never used Photoshop before, so I was quite scared that I would find it too complicated for me to use. I had a tutorial with Steve, who showed me many features of Photoshop. I was quite surprised, as I picked it up straight away. In a lot of ways this was similar to Flash!

Wednesday flew by, mainly because everyone was concentrating on their content. Although I was unsure of some of the terms that Steve had given us, I knew some of them by nature, due to the course I took before this one. I felt that I could use it to my advantage.

I had also been creating some screen designs at home, and looking at different ways in which my site could be formed. I looked at text that was web safe, different navigation bars, different buttons, different layouts, etc. I then used these ideas and created my own in my sketch book. On my first assignment I didn't take in the feedback I had received from my peers, and I created a site that was based on my opinion and not the audience.

This time around I will create a form that lets my peers select their own layout from my designs, so that their feedback is going into account. By doing it this way I will not be creating a website for me, but I will be creating a website that is based on the feedback that I receive, which I feel will improve the site overall.

My designs are a lot better this time around, as I have actually researched into site templates that could be useful, instead of creating several basic ones from my head. I feel that the research has been helpful.

On Thursday we started the image manipulation. Steve had found a scraggy photo and we all had to repair it and to add colour. I feel that mine was going well.... Until the computer crashed and I lost a lot of work! I must remember to save my work a lot more next time, if ever it should crash again. I was well peeved about this, although it was my fault for not saving often enough.

Over the next week at home I will be finishing off my previously outstanding assignment, ready for John to check through it on Tuesday. I will also look into more creations for my site, including the form template that will be used for people to select their favourite layout, font, etc. I will need to work on this Photoshop image at home also, if I am to complete it on time. I feel that I am on target with my assignments, although some adjustments can be made to them. I must not leave these to the last minute, unlike I did on my first assignment.

Have you thought about creating a simple paper questionnaire for the class to fill in so you can gain feedback from your designs that way?

Or have I misinterpreted entirely and that is actually what you're planning on doing?

yeah something similar to that. I am going to have a list and peers can select which they think is the best, and why.

I think the last time I created screenshots I just chose the final piece myself, and didn't take in feedback. This time im going to make sure that it is peer based, and not on my owt thoughts.

I think the feedback sheet is a good idea. I will also use this and get feedback from the group. I think it might be useful to get feedback from less experienced internet users also to get a wider range of opinions that would probably suit your target audience more. This would probably mean asking friends, work colleagues and relations their opinions.

good idea. Ill ask around my friends and family also. I had this idea in my head but didn't really think about it until you mensioned it.

I think it will be useful, although inexperienced users might not know what to expect from a website. At least with our peers we all know the type of content that the site should contain

I am going to try and create some kind of feedback form too because that is something that I did badly last time, I think I am going to get a few people from the target audience to fill it in so that it can hopefully suit everybody.

Thats a good idea Ben, Ill have to try and make sure I use the full range of my target audience, and not a few at the same age. Good thinking!
