Working in a green environment reduces your chance of receiving a stomach ache!

This week Steve shocked us all by pronouncing that we would be presenting a show on a specific colour. I hate presentations, as I have not had a very good experience of them, although Steve's lecture helped. "What can we possibly say on colour?" I was thinking. I was hoping that I had a colour that I liked, which I was successful at obtaining. I recieved the colour Green. I was partnered with Mirhad, which I was quite glad of, as I know him from my previous course. I felt quite calm whilst I researched through the web for information on my specific colour.

During my research I found things like "St. Patrick's Day, which I was familiar with before. I never realised there could be so much content to a presentation based on just one colour. I also found some amusing phrases during my search.

I was unable to have a successful rehearsal, which made me even more nervous about the presentation, due to the fact that I was rehearsing in a room with very creaky doors. Another thing that made me even more nervous was the fact that I didn't know who would be watching. As people started to go up and present their colour, I was thinking to myself "I don't want to go next, hope it's not me next."

Eventually my time came and my nerves weren't too bad.... until I reached Steve's door. What made me more nervous was the fact that Dianne would be watching, I didn't get on so well with Dianne during the first week so I was quite nervous about being around her. I started off with a great introduction according to Steve, but the rest of the presentation was full of umms and ahs. To be honest, I was expecting this, as I am like that on all my presentations that I have done. I felt quite bad, although I think I did better than any of my previous attempts. I think this was because of the lecture with Steve, which covered ways to structure the presentation. I found this useful, as i never really was any good at presentations.

After I had finished I was relieved that I had it out of the way, although Steve had mentioned that people will be going more than once. I hoped that I wouldn't need to go again. Even after I had done my presentation I kept thinking "Not me, I hope I am not next." The feedback I received from Steve and Dianne wasn't so bad. I was expecting them to shout at me for not rehearsing enough but they just smiled and told me what I would need to do next time, which I will take into account.

One thing I am glad of is the chance to do a presentation, as one of our major assignments involves one. This gave me chance to practice and learn new techniques for the next time. Even though I hate presentations, I do hope that there will be several more for us to practice on. I learned many facts about the colour green, and some other colours thanks to the handy fact leaflets that were created by some of my peers. Another thing I learned was that I shouldn't be scared of Dianne. I was always nervous when she was in class as I dont think we got on very well, but now i know that she is as nice as Steve and John.

The next time I have a presentation, I will make sure that I rehearse a lot more. I think this was the main reason of my nervousness during my presentation. I will also make sure that I give eye contact to all the audience, and not to focus on one person. I will also remember to hand out my fact leaflet. I had this in my hand ready to impress Steve with after my presentation, but I was so nervous that I forgot to hand it out!

I also forgot to hand out my fact sheet, but this is why were practicing at this stage so we can get everything drilled into our heads so it becomes more natural over time. Practice makes perfect… unfortunately.

I think that rehearsing your presentation does make a big difference and does make you feel slightly more confident that you can do it. I found that going and rehearsing in the car was effective as it was quiet and there was nobody around to distract me which helped me to concentrate more on the presentation. Next time you do this it may be effective for you as you will not have to worry about anybody watching you.

I found it hard to reherse due to the noise in the area that I was in. I think that next time I will choose a more suitable area.

The idea of rehersing in your car was good. That way, you wont get distracted. I might try this next time.
