The design looks quite oppressive, I understand that by including the image of the man holding a business card could add interest to the design, however it may look unprofessional if not done right. I realise that altering the background colour to black would also be classed as depressing, however by changing this and the text to the left to 80% black should give you a nice effect.

Dark green could be replaced with a brighter colour to contrast against the black, magenta and white works well. I do like your logo, although it may look better if you create it as one colour and joining the letters together.

Lastly, I find the layout simple and it works effectively.

Cheers, I guess I could have a play around with the logo and colours when I start to build the site. The image will be hard to draw as I don't think I am quite up to the taks of creating it well in Freehand.

I know I can draw really well in Flash but have been advised not to use it by several peers.

I guess the site will look professional if I can get this image right. If not then I'll have to think of something to add their in it's place.

I should manage though :D

I think the block grey is what puts me off, and I think this is what is making the design look quite oppressive. The green doesn't really work with the grey either, so I'd either change the colour of the logo to one that contrasts nicely with the background or change the coloured background.

Coming back to that image that you plan on creating - I think it is going to be a very difficult one to get right and it will stick out like a sore thumb. I don't think it is going to fit with the design at all, and If you want to make it fit you will have to redesign your site so it fits in with the style of this image that you are going to draw. For it to work, the image will have to look VERY good. Other than that, I think the idea of a "cartoon guy holding a business card" sounds a bit cheesy.

I don't think you're going to need so much text on the home page, and I'd put more emphasis on the thumbnails. I think the bar holding the text needs to be widened to page-width, the cartoon image to be dropped, and the thumbnails increased in size.

Something which I found was that your MP logo looked a little like MD on first glance.

It could just be me but quickly skimming your design that was the first thing that I noticed that threw me a bit.

I like the way your website is right aligned it makes it look a bit different to norm but not too much that I could get confused using it.

I’m glad you’ve decided not to add a flash cartoon to the site. I think this could have lead to slightly more than one or two headaches.

How will the web and print pages look? If it were me I’d have one main image at the bottom replacing the six, this would keep the layout consistent.

I would also include a launch site button instead of just an image link to the actual site.

Hi Marc
1 - I think that the active page link needs to be a different colour to show it is the Active Page.

2 - The only thing thats was advised by your peers was not to export the file as a SWF and insted export it as a JPG or a GIF. Nobody said you couldn't use the software!

3 - Craig A has a point with the logo I can see what he means about the P looking like a D but it is only marginal.

4 - To be honest I would change the colours, like Craig B says I feel the grey is too strong as is the green.

5 - I would have thought by now 'The Man' with the business card would be available for viewing. Is this going to be based on you? ie a Cartoon version of yourself? If you were to do this it would have to be a consistent theme through your website and maybe try to make the website look more cartoony

I guess more thought needs to be placed in this. The image of the man was just going to be on the homepage, being replaced with images of my work on the other pages.

I could always cut out the man and have 2 or 3 larger thumbnails of some of my work instead.

I think you need to ask yourself 'What purpose does the image have on my design? Do I need it?'

If the answer is 'don't know' and 'no' (or 1 of the 2), then you should seriously re-think whether you need it.

Will it add anything to the website? Will it enhance the user's experience or actually hinder it?

I guess what I had in mind was to show off a bit of skill with vector software using Flash or Freehand.

But then again your right if it doesn't look good as it will make the whole site look unprofessional

I think I am going to drop it anyway. I can see myself spending hours on this cartoon and wasting time rather than concentrating on building the site.
