Hi Marc, do you intend to export the 'Cartoon Man' as a SWF file or are you going to publish it as a JPG? My only concern is that if you do it as a SWF a percentage of you target audience could be alienated which doesn't look good for a first page of a portfolio website. Especially as it is a big element as well.
Personally I would re-organise your links as well putting 'Home' first as it is the first page they see it should be the first link.
Even though you have the line length about right I don't think there would be that much text on the first page and to be honest I don't think that many people would read that much text. If you want to put that much text about yourself I would put it on a separate 'About me' page.
I don't see how having a bit of Flash on the homepage would alienate people. They might not like it, but I doubt it would annoy anyone so much that they would click off.
However, you should think carefully about using Flash Marc. If you're just shoe-horning it in because you said you would like to include a bit of Flash, then I'd leave it out. Think whether it would work just as well as a flat image, and if the answer is yes just do it as a flat image.
Depending on what version they have I meant Craig and depending on the file size etc downloading to the users browser.
If it is just going to be used as a static image it should be created as a static image.
I didn't mean that people would be offended by it, I have gone on websites where the flash hasn't been needed but I did not click away but I saw it because I have the newest Flash player else target an older Flash player.
I agree with Chris and Craig about using Flash on your homepage. If you could use a static image this may be more effective.
Its quite difficult to judge your design without seeing what is going to be put to the left because this is quite a large section of the page. I do like the colour scheme though and the links are effective as they show the user what page they are on.
Well the general idea was to just draw it in Flash and use it as a flat image. I don't think that users would approve of moving images staring at them.
The links will, ofcourse be in order. I placed it that way just to show that they are actually tabs and the selected tab is brought to the front.
As for the text length there will be more information on other pages than the home page.
Cheers for the comments though. I really need to think about this Flash image.

I won't enter into the flash debate, just to say that it may have a negative effect on the viewers visit length.
You really want them to stay as long as possible, Flash could turn them off if it isn't used right!
I think you should put a gap between your name which runs along the top, or maybe increasing one of the name sizes or bod one side, to cause a point of difference.
Also you could try moving the images above the scroll line so these would be seen first.

Marc - why draw it in Flash if you intend on using it as a flat image?
Break out the vector software. You'll find it a lot easier.
