The target audience for the portfolio is a question that will need to be thought about a lot. The portfolio is the most important website we will be creating, and it has to meet the target audience in order to sell myself. The website will also be marked by Educationists, as well as external markers.
The site needs to look professional and to a high standard, which shows as much of my good work off as possible. I will have to show a range of the skills I have learned and can do well if I am to advertise myself successfully. I will be selling myself not only to web design studios, but to potential clients as well.
Educationist

Potential Clients

She has a passion for cooking and loves to create and experiment with new recipes. She attends regular meetings with her staff to give them feedback on their progression. She would like a website created to advertise her company, as she feels it will invite more customers to her restaurant. She has very little internet experience, but knows how to use Microsoft Office programs very well. She owns a printer but hardly uses it. She uses Internet Explorer 7.
Potential Employers

He has a passion for web designing and is always searching the net for some new talented employees that could be added to his team. He also spends a lot of time learning new programming languages and techniques. Currently he is learning Ruby, which is taking up most of his time.
He owns several top spec computers, each with duel monitors and 512 GB graphics card. They also run on 2 GB DDR2 RAM. He has an 8 GB wireless broadband connection and owns a server. He hopes to expand his studio to make room for new staff and PC's. He uses Firefox 2.0.
External Assessor
Paige is a 41 year old external HND assessor who works for Edexcel. She travels from college to college re-marking students work. She talks to teachers that aren't showing their full potential and gives them guidelines on what actions to take. She also talks about the student’s educational level, and decides if the students are progressing as much as they should be.

I have to say a good set of Target Audiences, do you think this has helped you with the Target Audience for the iTunes task? I feel my Target Audiences have improved greatly from the ones I started with last year.
I guess that what ever we do on the course is aimed at those same people. At the end of the day were here to try and show off as much of our work as possible.
I can see a difference in detail, although the progress can be seen with each target audience we do.
I think that you have established a good set of audience's that are thorough and well thought out. Would an External Assessor not be classed as an Educationalist though?
I also agree with you about the fact that our main aim is to show off as much of our work as possible.
I agree with Ben that an external assessor would probably be classed as an educationalist. 3 target audiences should be more than enough. I don't think that the specifications of computers is really needed, especially when things like dual cores and graphics cars will have little bearing on the performance of the website.
I'd stick to screen resolutions, browsers and plugins for the next time you do target audiences.
I never though of it that way. I decided to put the external assessor down as a different target as I see them to be different to what Steve is. I guess they both should be included in Educationists.
I never thought about plug-ins Julian, I think this is something I have overlooked and could possibly be included in future target audiences.
